Fibre Broadband Operational Works

Across the country, the long-serving copper telephone lines are being replaced with full fibre connections. Eventually, nearly all phone and broadband services will be provided by fibre all the way from homes to the serving exchanges.

There is a significant volume of these works underway now.

The works are being undertaken by numerous fibre operators, not just BT Openreach. Sometime there is limited impact on local communities when existing infrastructure such as ducts can be used, but in other cases there can be a need for invasive civils works which can be quite disruptive.

The Digital Infrastructure Programme team at Oxfordshire County Council are updating residents with guidance if assistance is required over a weekend due to problematic operational works.

During normal working hours, any complaints or feedback related to fibre operational works should be directed to the telecoms provider’s contact details, which can be located on the site information board. However, OCC recognises that sometimes contacting out of hours numbers can be somewhat problematic for residents.

To further support communities, the Oxfordshire County Council’s Digital Infrastructure Programme team has a dedicated Fibre Liaison Officer who is available outside of normal working hours to assist residents with any issues that may arise over the weekend.

How to contact our officer at weekends:

If you need to reach our Fibre Liaison Officer due to fibre works in your area at the weekend, please visit OCC’s Contact page. On the right side of the page, you’ll find a box with a bold ‘here’ button. Click this button to open an email addressed directly to an officer.  Alternatively, you can contact Mark Burgess directly on Mark.Burgess@Oxfordshire.gov.uk or by phone on 07449 231683.
